Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited Serbia on Oct. 5 to participate in the celebration of the 1700-year anniversary of the “Edict of Milan” which was signed by Constantine and Licinius, who controlled the Balkans. The order established the freedom of religion in the Roman Empire.
The main ceremony of the celebrations will be held on Oct. 6 in the city of Nis, birthplace of Constantine the Great . The ceremony will also be attended by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III and Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Hieronymus, who will be accompanied by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia .
Ecumenical Patriarch was welcomed in Belgrade Airport by the Patriarch of Serbs Irinaios. The Primates of the Orthodox Churches on Oct. 6 will operate side-by-side in the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel and then they will visit Nis in order to attend to the main celebrations.
